PERSONALIZED SERVICE DOG TRAINING

Your Needs. Your Dog. Your Training Plan.

Service Dog Obedience, Task Training & Owner Coaching

A service dog can make an extraordinary difference in someone's everyday life. But every person's needs are different, and so is every dog's training journey.

At Marvelous Mannered K9s of Texas, we help families develop the obedience foundation, real-world manners, and disability-related tasks their dogs may need.

Whether you want to participate in the training yourself or prefer more comprehensive professional assistance, we'll help you explore a plan that fits your goals, your dog, and your budget.

THE FOUNDATION

Reliable Obedience Comes First.

Before a dog can perform specialized tasks reliably, it needs the confidence, obedience, and manners to work alongside its handler.

Our foundational training may include:

Miniature Schnauzer practicing focused core obedience with a trainer.

Core Obedience

Reliable sit, down, place, and recall.

Goldendoodle walking attentively on a loose leash beside a handler.

Leash & Walking Manners

Loose-leash walking and heel work for calmer outings.

Miniature Schnauzer resting calmly near people in a public setting.

Public Manners

Calm around people and dogs, ignoring distractions, settling quietly in public, and appropriate everyday behavior.

Goldendoodle offering a paw to a handler during partnership training.

Handler Partnership

Consistent communication between dog and handler builds confidence and follow-through.

Service-dog suitability requires individual evaluation of temperament, health, confidence, and behavior. Obedience alone does not qualify a dog as a trained service animal.

YOUR TRAINING OPTIONS

Different Needs. Different Paths.

You don't have to choose between doing everything yourself and having someone else do everything for you.

Obedience Foundations

We develop your dog's obedience, manners, and real-world reliability.

You take responsibility for teaching the specialized tasks your dog will eventually need.

A good fit for: Owners who want professional obedience training but are comfortable continuing task training independently.

Obedience + Owner Coaching

We build the obedience foundation and teach you how to train the disability-related tasks your dog needs to perform.

You'll learn how to practice, communicate, reinforce behaviors, and continue developing your dog's skills at home.

A good fit for: Owners who have the time and desire to participate in training and want to reduce the cost of professional task training.

Obedience + Professional Task Training

We discuss a more comprehensive training program that may include both obedience and specialized disability-related task training.

The scope, cost, and timeline depend on the tasks required, the dog's suitability, and the amount of professional training involved.

A good fit for: Families who need more hands-on professional assistance.

There is no one-size-fits-all package. Every program begins with a conversation about your needs, your dog's abilities, your schedule, and your budget.

A PERSONAL JOURNEY

Meet Brandy — Laura's Diabetic Alert Service Dog

Laura and Brandy enjoying life together—service-dog manners beyond the training session.

For Laura, service-dog training is personal.

Living with Type 1 diabetes, Laura trained her own Goldendoodle, Brandy, to develop the obedience and manners expected of a working service dog.

She also trained Brandy to alert her with a paw when her blood glucose drops below 70 mg/dL.

Brandy is more than a beloved companion. She's a meaningful example of what patience, consistency, and a strong working relationship between a dog and handler can accomplish.

That firsthand experience is part of what inspires Laura to help other families explore their own service-dog training journeys.

FAMILY-GUIDED TASK TRAINING

Meet Judah — Training to Become a Hearing Assistance Dog

Goldendoodle Judah preparing for hearing assistance work with guidance from MMK9.

Judah is a Goldendoodle preparing for an important role as a hearing assistance dog.

MMK9 worked with Judah and his family to establish his obedience foundation, then taught his family how to continue his specialized task training.

His training goals include learning to alert his hearing-impaired handler with a gentle nudge when someone knocks at the door, the doorbell rings, or she drops something while walking.

Judah and his family are continuing that training together.

His story demonstrates an important part of our philosophy: when owners are willing and able to participate, professional guidance can help them continue developing their dog's skills while reducing the cost of training.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Service Dog Training FAQs

Can I train my own service dog?

Yes. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, people with disabilities may train their own service dogs. Professional training is not required by the ADA.

Does my dog need a special certificate?

No. The ADA does not require service dogs to be certified or registered. A vest, identification card, or online certificate does not establish service-dog status.

Can any dog become a service dog?

Not necessarily. Temperament, health, behavior, and the ability to learn and reliably perform appropriate disability-related tasks are important considerations.

Can MMK9 help with obedience while I handle task training?

Absolutely. This is one of our training options. We can also discuss coaching you through task training or providing additional professional assistance, depending on the situation.

How much does service-dog training cost?

The cost depends on your dog's starting point, the training goals, and how much of the work you want MMK9 to complete. Owner participation may reduce the total cost.
